Journey

So I started playing Journey on the PS3, which was the reason I updated it in the first place.

It’s hard to explain, but it’s compelling and its two player anonymous cooperative play is extraordinarily so. There’s no communication between the players and you can just walk away if you want to.

Most people I’ve accompanied have been taking the same journey, just sort of walking along and discovering the world at the same time I am. It’s rather compelling. You don’t talk. The most communication you have is a simple tap of the button that makes a symbol appear over your head, accompanied by a short musical note.

It hurts my head thinking about how someone would even begin to write something like this.

Scene 1: There is a mysterious red robed Figure sitting in the desert. The Figure stands. The camera pans upward, revealing The Mountain.

Overall, anyone that has a PS3 should play Journey, it’s that good.

It will be about a two hour trip, but it is worth it.

The night before

This is the part where it doesn’t seem real, where I’m watching myself pack and do things that are decidedly non packing.

Trips always get me nervous, and no amount of preplanning seems to take away that anxiety. I have the list.

Everything is checked off.

All there is left is to fall asleep and wake up ready to head out.

Small pleasures

It’s the three dollar Boddingtons that do you in at lunch.

But they were worth it.

Happy Friday!

Finished Mass Effect 3 and Journey this past week. It’s been a good catchup week but to be fair, Journey was very short.

Mass Effect 3 on the other hand, was very long. And I even took the short route, not doing all the sidequests.

I have my own take on the controversial ending and that’s coming soon once I have digested my own thoughts.

Journey was a great, short, satisfying, and deeply thoughtful experience that I can recommend to anyone.

Those thoughts are also forthcoming.

Every Freaking Time

I think to myself,

Oh wow, there’s something interesting to play that’s exclusive to the PS3!

I’ll go home and start it up, only to realize that I need to update the firmware because I never turn the damn thing on except to play that one exclusive every six months.

I guess that’s a first world problem.
