Gimmicks make the game

Clips: Elevator Action Arcade Shooter Has Great Name, Even Better Gimmick.  I would love to see this game here in the states.

It’s a light gun game with an actual physical gimmick of the elevator doors closing in front of the arcade screen.  I’ve played gimmicky light gun games before, but this one pretty much takes the gimmick crown.

Wrong end of the business end

It is screenshots like this that make me want to play the incredibly unforgiving EVE Online.  I mean, it’s just awesome.

It’s not that it’s a hard game, it’s that lots of people play it at once.  There are no servers, only one concurrent universe where everyone plays the game.  They recently set a record.  45, 186 players at once.

A relatively large player base means that in the Player versus Player environment of EVE, there could possibly be 45,185 people out there trying to kill you at once.

The Space Game

It’s an apt title.  It’s the game you’ve played before, in space.  There are asteroids to mine, pirate ships to fight, and lasers and missiles to fend them off with.

It’s like a condensed version of Sins of a Solar Empire, if Sins were strictly a tower defense game.  (Although, with the new expansion, “Entrenchment” it could be argued that it is a glorified version of tower defense.  But that’s another post.)

It’s fun, and a good way to spend some time at work, when one finds themself the only member of their department that made it in due to the weather.

Street Fighter IV accessories

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

I’m going to see how many times I can say, “surprise” in the first ten seconds.  Here’s the Tournament Edition Fightstick for Street Fighter IV.

It’s rather large.  I’ve been sitting on this video for a while, I actually got the stick a week before Street Fighter IV dropped at my place, so I was using it to play Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on the 360.

Actually using it to play SFIV is amazing, and I feel like I’m back at the Yellow Brick Road in Mission Valley on a Friday afternoon with the rest of Honors English IV.

The PSP2

I am ready for this rumor to be true:  The PSP2 (really, at this point the fourth iteration of the PSP) will not have a UMD drive.

I wouldn’t cry any tears if UMD went the way of Betamax, Minidisc, to some extent the Memory Stick, and any other form of proprietary format that SONY loves.  I’m just saying.

Don’t get me wrong.  I really like the two games I play on the PSP.  DJ MAX and uh. . .

I do like the fantastic screen, and the combination of Handbrake and PSPware really opened up my media options with the system.  Time shifting media that I own has been the best use of the system so far.  Subtitles are clear, and the motion is fluid and easy to watch.  Plus the camera, the one that never made it to the United States, is pretty cool.

But I am ready, so ready, for the UMD to just fail as a media format.  Never mind I have more than two dozen UMD games sitting around.   I am tired of sitting and listening to the tiny little disc spin up in its inadequate protective housing.  I think I’m ready to transition to the all digital download for games.  And to be honest, I think that SONY is ready for that transition as well.
