Street Fighter IV accessories

Get the Flash Player to see this player.

I’m going to see how many times I can say, “surprise” in the first ten seconds.  Here’s the Tournament Edition Fightstick for Street Fighter IV.

It’s rather large.  I’ve been sitting on this video for a while, I actually got the stick a week before Street Fighter IV dropped at my place, so I was using it to play Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix on the 360.

Actually using it to play SFIV is amazing, and I feel like I’m back at the Yellow Brick Road in Mission Valley on a Friday afternoon with the rest of Honors English IV.

Street Fighter IV: Nine hours later

It’s still very good.  I managed to get into a match earlier this evening and the latency was yellow.

Still, the experience of fighting another person was still in there.  So much better than fighting the computer, there were tactics and trickery involved and it was just very exciting.

Good stuff, and I’m looking forward to mixing it up a bit more.

It has been nine hours later, and I’ve unlocked all the characters and unlocked a few more achievements and titles for myself.  I currently have an icon of a bean sprout and my title is, “Not the face.”

Which is great.

I’m enjoying the complexity of the title and really getting into Abel and Ryu, they’re just fun to play.

New Kit

I was particularly interested in the Nikon 18-55mm VR lens, primarily as a way to shoot indoors without having to resort to flash.  It was either that lens, or continue to move myself closer and farther away to compose my shots.

Not that I mind, if I’m doing a dedicated shoot, I move around a lot because I’m using my 50mm 1.8. I’ve also picked a location that will allow me to to move around my subjects.

It’s just that indoors that’s not always practical.  I figure it will be a good walking around lens which will allow me some composition versatility.  Additionally, the VR, or vibration reduction component will allow me some leeway indoors where the lighting isn’t always perfect.

VR’s pretty interesting technology.

I was worried that the Ritz Camera applying for Chapter 11 was going to impact my order.  Thankfully I just got the shipping notice.  Now all that remains is waiting for the lens to arrive.  I got a great price, less than one quarter the cost of the new model 16-85mm VRII lens.

I’m now stalking the package via the internet.  Maybe it’ll get here tomorrow, and I can play with it on Saturday.

The PSP2

I am ready for this rumor to be true:  The PSP2 (really, at this point the fourth iteration of the PSP) will not have a UMD drive.

I wouldn’t cry any tears if UMD went the way of Betamax, Minidisc, to some extent the Memory Stick, and any other form of proprietary format that SONY loves.  I’m just saying.

Don’t get me wrong.  I really like the two games I play on the PSP.  DJ MAX and uh. . .

I do like the fantastic screen, and the combination of Handbrake and PSPware really opened up my media options with the system.  Time shifting media that I own has been the best use of the system so far.  Subtitles are clear, and the motion is fluid and easy to watch.  Plus the camera, the one that never made it to the United States, is pretty cool.

But I am ready, so ready, for the UMD to just fail as a media format.  Never mind I have more than two dozen UMD games sitting around.   I am tired of sitting and listening to the tiny little disc spin up in its inadequate protective housing.  I think I’m ready to transition to the all digital download for games.  And to be honest, I think that SONY is ready for that transition as well.

Indestructible

I actually did it.  I tracked down the Street Fighter IV opening theme.

And bought it on iTunes.

In a way I’m ashamed, but in a way, I’m not.
