The one with Bruce Campbell

There’s a story here, and it starts, “Hey, did I ever tell you about the time I insulted Bruce Campbell?” Yes, the one and only Bruce Campbell. Star of the Evil Dead Trilogy, and the television series Brisco County Junior. Also, one very down to earth and very interesting guy.

And I insulted him.

It all starts when I found out that he was scheduled to appear at the Olsson’s in Rosslyn. Jossie had mentioned it, forwarded the information to me via email. All very cool, all very up in the air, and I didn’t know it yet, but I was going to insult Mr. Campbell at that signing.

Pictures to follow. In the meantime, I have a lot of film to burn in a disposable camera before I get to my picture with Bruce Campbell. Whee!

In the meantime, here are the pics I took with the low resolution camera. Oh yeah, feel the pixels. Should have sprung for the Kodak already. But, hindsight, as they say, is twenty-twenty.

Journals

Sunday, 5 August, 2001 9:13 AM
Ah yes. The large lapse.

This happens from time to time. Usually it’s the work of a deadline at work, or a vacation. In this case, it’s laziness and a predilection to write in the other journals. I have several. A large, spiral hardbound notebook, which contains nightly journal entries. A leather bound daily journal travels with me everywhere I go. Sometimes, entries are made in a webcomic journal–but those entries are few and far between. I sometimes buy travel journals for specific trips. Then there’s the notebook I just jot down daily lists in. It has plans for debt reduction, lists of things to buy, definitions of words.

Then there’s this one, which is an entirely different animal altogether.

But that still doesn’t excuse me from making an entry here. So, here’s the quick recap–

Went to the taping of SmackDown! Saw the Rock! Yelled a lot. Insisted I wasn’t a fan of wrestling. Looked at Mel stare at me as I yell like a man possessed for the Rock to give Shane McMahon the People’s Elbow. (He did.)

Beat Max Payne.

Changed work to the seven to three shift. Watched Planet of the Apes at the four fifteen showing, with twelve other people in the theater. Went out for seafood pho afterwards. (Mmmm. Pho.)

Went to “work” at Electronic’s Boutique.

Went swimming. Well, bobbing actually. I just sort of stand in the water and try to keep it out as I flail around in it. Good fun. Melanie’s sort of gotten me a third of the way there. I don’t fear the water now, at least not as long as I can stand in it. I still don’t know why I never really learned how to swim. It’s really bothering me now. I just have to do it.

Then we went to the Outback, I had my one serving of red meat a month, and then we went home and just hung out for a long period of time.

Came home and found out that the first of my music games from Japan has arrived. Oh yes. Drummania. Now all that remains is purchasing an import PS2, and then my friends will feel the wrath of this “fully operational musical game nut.”

What interests me is the fact that something important happens everyday–people just don’t take the time to write them down, to remember them. Then they’re gone forever.

I'm taking what they're giving

Well, another day passes. At the state department, you have no privacy. It says so when you log in in the morning. It’s interesting, although I never thought I’d be working for the government this. . . well, deep. Friend of mine called me ‘Mulder’ jokingly, although I am located in the basement of the state department.

It’s a heck of a place to work. Good people.

On the flip side, I’m thinking of purchasing Drummania, even though I have nothing to play it on. That, and Guitar Freaks 3rd Mix, just so I can be on the drums and two people on guitar playing in what is the best form of air band, ever. The only problem is money. Serious, serious moolah.

If anyone wants to get me any gifts. These are them.

Stimulus: Economic

I had one of those days commuting. Get up early to eat breakfast and make lunch. Make lunch, eat breakfast. Get out early to catch bus. Bus is late. Bus arrives fifteen minutes later. Bus proceeds to go five miles an hour. Thirty minutes later, bus has gone half my route, which normally takes twenty minutes. I consider walking the rest of the route, when the bus driver announces, “Everyone off the bus.”

I get on the metro and then walk the rest of the way to work, arriving to work one hour and fifteen minutes after I leave my house.

Then I find I left my lunch at home. -_-

Yeah, no quote or anything. I’m a little too tired to be a smartass. Thank god tomorrow is payday. The only thing that really makes this day a little better is the fact that Dubyah Bush decided to give me back around three hundred dollars in taxes. Which, most likely will be taken away from me next year, but we’ll see. I could use the money now. What will you do with the extra money? Drop me a note, let me know what you’ll be doing.

You don't talk about Write Club

Another day, another write club meeting. Another occasion to celebrate writing. Like web design. Basically, we’re making up this fantastic language of almost cryptic runes that represent structure, images, sounds, layout and all sorts of neat shit. And it’s only going to get better. I mean, virtual worlds have their own language where you write about a sphere, in a certain way, and it appears in your world. I tell you, we are living in the future. Although we have the broadband to talk and broadcast video, I still wholeheartedly believe that our future lies in words.

The printed word.

It’s the only way we can communicate with our technology. With the advent of PDAs that recognize handwriting, we’ve come full circle. We don’t talk to them. They don’t read our minds, but they do read our gestures and our thoughts through our ability to write. Incredible.

But, I’ve blabbed on long enough, and spent way too much money. I’m getting old, aren’t I?

Speaking of age. Party at nations. This Friday. If you’re reading this, please come, I’m inviting you.
