On Baby Showers

I’m not quite convinced that they are integral to the continued progress of our society as a whole.

They are interesting, but maybe to just save the time and energy, set up a couple of laptops for your registry and have a bunch of drinks with the people you love.

Non alcoholic ones are good, too.

On the other hand, I did get to draw a picture of Quagmire from Family Guy in the context of a, “What will the baby look like?” contest.

There have been some changes

What I’ve learned so far:

Sometimes, people who have not seen me with short hair before will ask, “Can I touch it?” and then touch it without waiting for an answer. I know this isn’t exactly like when pregnant women have to fend off people rubbing their bellies, but I am slightly more empathetic about being touched without permission.

 

The Unbearable Shortness of Tweeting

There is just something about the twitter medium that has always bothered me, but I never realized it until now.

I miss the long form of writing an actual journal entry. The ability to digress on a topic longer than 140 characters. It’s a great exercise in editing and being concise, but there are a lot of topics that are just not suited for the format.

Sometimes, I just can’t fit the snarkiness into 140 characters, and that bothers me.

My Skyrim Story

I started playing Skyrim. This was a decision that I came to after I realized that Steam had been hacked, and while Gabe assured me that everything was going to be okay, I didn’t want money hanging around in my Steam wallet.

None of this makes sense from an  Information Security standpoint.

But now there is a total of zero Steambux Spacedollars in my wallet, and Skyrim ended up costing me about $20 out of this month’s paycheck. It was full price, but I had $40 that I paid to Steam about four months ago that wasn’t doing anything.

I don’t know why I did it. I didn’t like Oblivion. I know, sacrilege. But then, due to the amazing power of groupthink and Reddit, I decided to bite the bullet.

i, Consumer

So, getting an iPod touch has been one of the best and worst purchases I’ve made this year.

On the one hand, I’ve got a mobile computer.

On the other hand, I’m getting into a dangerous ecosystem of iDevices. They are seductive, style oozing from every smooth surface, every UI decision.

An iPad can’t be far behind.
