Happy Birthday, etc. . .

Joyous tidings go out to jungfroid, who had a fun filled Saturday surprise luncheon with about thirty other people. Many thanks to all the people that kept the secret, especially his parents–who were good sports about the whole thing and even let us use their house as party central. I’m sure he’ll have the pics up as soon as possible.

Does it hurt?

Had a dental appointment this morning. A lot of people hate having to go. I’m one of the few that’s ambivalent about the whole dental hygiene thing. It’s something you have to do, so you do it. No whining, just get it over with. I don’t mind the latex gloves. I don’t mind the eventual numbing from keeping your mouth wide open for extended periods of time. I don’t mind it when they draw the gloves back and you see blood on the gloves. I don’t mind the visual of sharp objects laid out on a table that are going into your mouth.

What I can’t stand about going to the dentist is the damn muzak.

It’s hard enough trying to relax when you’ve got a vaccuum in your mouth and the interrogation light shining into your eyes. No, you have to listen to “easy listening” versions of “I’ll Be There,” “Careless Whispers,” and “The Dance.”

The Dance–I thought that song already was muzak.

Thankfully, the scrapings of metal picks on hardened deposits of tartar amplified directly through my skull drowned out a good majority of the aural assault.

The verdict: No cavities, a chipped filling that needs to be replaced, and I should be flossing more. Not bad for skipping out for two years.

Another day, another nickel

I’m sitting here with a headset in my ear because I’m troubleshooting work connectivity problems. I guess this is why they pay me the implied, “Big bucks.” Although, admittedly–I do like solving problems. That’s why I was hired, and that’s what I do when I get home from work.

I gotta tell you though, there are some days I really hate computers.

It's relevant, again

With the release of the Lord of the Rings dvd (one of three–sheesh!) this post becomes relevant again. When it all comes down to it, there’s only one big story.

The Storm Riders

I’m a fan of Hong Kong martial arts films. Not the chop socky seventies porn soundtrack late night on USA ones, but the “new school.” The latest crop of films out of HK cinema have started to use amazing digital effects in addition to the already superb wirework. Probably one of the best that I’ve seen is a little flick called, “The Storm Riders.” It is one of the most beautiful examples of the genre that I’ve ever seen. It’s entertaining, and it’s great fun.

Not to mention that there’s a lot of digitally enhanced ass kicking. Trust me, track this one down. You’ll thank me the first time you see a wind kick.
