My Body, My Self

There is a certain enmity I have with my body when I’m sick.

I just want to get better, and do the things that I want to do.  But the body takes priority.  It’s fatigued, it’s weary, it’s doing unpleasant things with membranes and cough reflexes.  It’s complaining and achy and demanding and I’m angry with it.

And while my body is rebelling against me, I know somewhere in the part that’s not busy feeling angry, that it’s doing all of these things because they are what’s best for me.  And I’m glad for it.

Preorder Bonus Madness

Okay, I’m a fan of preorder bonuses as much as the next guy, but Cryptic studios has put together fifteen different preorder bonus packages for Star Trek Online.  This is only counting retailers in the United States.  Counting the international editions of the preorder bonuses, there are forty.  Forty different preorder bonuses.

I’m not saying that they shouldn’t offer preorder bonuses.  That’s fine for the people who want to put down their money.

The weird thing is that there is a huge discrepancy with some of the content.  Some retailers get in game pets, like a Targ or a Tribble.  Other retailers get things like Borg Bridge Officers or Chromodynamic armor that offer in game bonuses to your statistics.  It’s like you can put money down to get an inherent advantage in the early game.  In my experience though, these early advantages all even out and end up being not so great once you get to the real equipment in later levels, so it’s not a big draw for me.

Although, the exclusive “KHAAAAAAAN!” emote is somewhat tempting.

Changing providers

I finally decided to move from speakeasy after I looked at the standard pricing for RCN.

It turns out that it’s seven times the bandwidth for fifty percent of my current rate.  So it’s kind of a no brainer.

Although I do feel bad moving from Speakeasy, I have to say that it’s not them, it’s me.  More specifically it’s my building’s outdated phone wiring that prevents me from getting anything faster than 1.2 Mb download speeds.  Then there are the intermittent connectivity issues.

I’m hoping that the cable wiring will be in better shape, considering that they’ve put that wiring in later than 1958.

Twinkies

I was on a gob kick as of late.  They’re sometimes referred to as “whoopie pies.”  I just finished the last of my stash and I was getting an urge for a twinkie.  I don’t know why, maybe it was exposure a couple of weeks ago.  The craving has stuck, but at least I found a recipe online for “twinks” which are uh, yeah—homemade twinkies.

Interesting naming convention aside, I’d really like to try making a batch of these at some point.

And not deep frying them.

The clock

I love my neighborhood.  It’s great.  More often than not, I’m disappointed that I don’t take advantage of it.  I found an antiques store today with this art deco clock that winds up with a key.  It was intricately carved and I really wanted to take it home, even though I didn’t have a place for it.

Not to mention that it wasn’t working, and I don’t really know any horologists that can fix it.

There was also a lot of rhinestone jewelry and old looking brooches.  I may speak to the proprietor sometime to try and get photos of the items in store.
