Electric Pen

It’s an illusion to commit anything to the internet. Writing a blog entry like writing an entry in a physical book is a mistake. It’s not ink to paper. It’s not anything to anything. It’s the rearranging of zones of differing polarities on a magnetic platter, meaningless to the human existence. I don’t even know where those spinning plates are.

I can view a notebook full of chicken scratch and I can at least try to figure out what the author meant, even if it’s a different language, I can see it. The way something is written can tell a story. Not the point of view, but the physical appearance of the letters can tell me something.

If I look at a hard disk platter, all I would see is my reflection. While it allows me some introspection, it tells me nothing.

This very post will disappear into archive oblivion a few entries from now. It won’t be flipped through by me on the way to a new, fresh page. In all likelihood, I’ll never see it again, never give it another thought.

But then again, maybe this time, maybe something in it will stick, some iota of an idea, that eternal spark that resonates with the nerve pathways that disappear and reappear in that mass of wrinkled matter contained in my skull?

It’s that hope that keeps me doing this.

Fun stuff

Finished World War Z and Soon, I Will Be Invincible.

World War Z is an oral history if the Zombie War, and well, that’s how it reads. I wanted more at the end though. I guess it’s a good thing that a movie is coming. In any case, Z-Day ends up being the “go to” conversation among my circle of friends so this is good source material for that.

Soon, I Will Be Invincible is a novel about people that happen to have super powers. You know, what would it be like if you had to be on a super team with your ex-wife. It’s more about the people, than the super powers, and that’s just fine with me.

I also like the term, “Malign Hypercognition Disorder.”

Next up is Un Lun Dun, a China Mieville novel whose title I only figured out yesterday morning. In one of those , “smack yourself in the forehead” moments, I realized what it was when the two main characters end up in an alternate version of the capital of the United Kingdom.

“Hey, they’re almost in a weird corrupted mirror universe version of–”

This is where I hit myself.

"It's sterile, and I like the taste."

So I made a “sports drink” with the materials on hand since I didn’t think to pick up anything or make up a batch of my standby GU for class tonight.

  • 1/3 apple juice
  • 2/3 water
  • Pinch of salt

Not bad, save for the fact that it looks like, well what you would expect watered down apple juice to look like.

Video Sunday!

Well, I guess it was only a matter of time.

Update: Tightened up some editing and fixed the ending.

Yay for reading

I really want to read this:

The premise just sounds good. I think comic book lit is the new hotness.
