The Need

“People need to be needed.” She said.

I looked up and watched her take another handful of clothes from the solitary dresser in what used to be our bedroom. She put them into her bag and went back for another handful.

I suppose my silence equaled assent. I agreed with her. People do need to be needed—but there wasn’t anything that I had to say or do. After all, she was the one that was ending this. She was the one that was leaving me for someone else. Her monologue was falling on deaf ears.

She needed to be needed. But not by me.

Well, one more thing

It’s good to be back in kung fu. I’m tired, but it’s that good tired. Still not in shape back to where I was, but I’m getting there, and it feels good to be active and learning something at the same time.

Thank goodness

One less reason for me to get a PSP.

Lumines for the mobile phone.

That’s really all I have to say.

It's so easy!

I recall one time, I listening to a friend trying to explain UNIX permissions to another friend of mine. They were not getting the concept. After about ten minutes of explanation, I interjected and the following dialogue occurred.

“Well, you see, it’s a series of three bits, you add up the numbers and then you end up with a three digit number that represents your permissions.”
“I’m not sure I get it.”
“IT’S FOUR PLUS TWO PLUS ONE IS SEVEN! IT’S NOT ROCKET SCIENCE!”

This is why I’m not in the training department.

Book 7 (Well, not really.)

As Ron and Hermione drew each other into a warm embrace, Harry decided to reveal himself before things got positively awkward.

Drawing his wand, he concentrated and wordlessly cast quietus on Ron and Hermione. Hermione’s head twitched as the spell took effect. He regretted casting spells on his friends, but time was of the essence. He would explain later, when everyone was safe.

Harry drew back the hood of his father’s invisibility cloak and spoke.

“Ron, Hermione, I apologize for what I’ve done, but you’ve got to come with me. It’s not safe here.” he whispered. Even then, he felt it was too loud. He had been careful, true, but it was a terrible risk to come for them. Harry felt that anyone could be listening, even now.

At the sound of Harry’s voice, Ron scrambled away from Hermione. As he watched Ron jump with fear, he was thankful that the quietus spell had worked. Ron was the very picture of fear, eyes wide open, mouth agape, fingers white from his grip on Hermione’s arm. Even with the spell, Harry swore that he could hear Ron’s scream, as though from a great distance.
