I know this is late. . .

But I just had to talk about this. I’m probably going to go down there at some point this weekend and visit the “silver monstrosity.” It’s the mother of all vending machines, apparently. Now this type of machine is nothing new. Apparently they’ve had them in Europe for some time now. And the Japanese have vending machines for everything.

Everything.

(Aside: If the United States is ahead of the rest of the world technologically, why is it that we are slow to adapt new tech? I mean, we just got text messaging on our phones. The Philippines, a developing nation by definition, has had it for years.)

Regardless. What bothers me the most is the last line of the article.

“And it’s not like you’re dealing with a real human being in convenience stores anyway.”
–Gerald Celente, director of the Trends Research Institute in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

Harsh words.

The great linux project of 02

Inspired by the success of Eric the Red–I made a linux box for me to play around with. I’ll let you know how this works out. In a way, I’d really like a place to put pics up on the web. I’ll keep you all posted.

Pop Culture Education

Last night, I watched the Video Music Awards on MTV over at Katrina’s. I learned several things.

  • Everyone pimps themselves
  • Britney’s career is over
  • I like Eminem to the point of self parody–but not when he takes himself seriously
  • Christina Aguilera needs a fashion advisor
  • Michael Jackson looks like a freak–but now that he’s added some weight, he looks like a pudgy, middle aged freak
  • Moby is just way too cool for mtv
  • MTV should be called Pepsi Television
  • I knew a lot more pop music than I had realized–not bad for a guy that never listens to the radio
  • It is going to be a sad, sad day in my life when I turn on an Oldies station and hear “The Humpty Dance”
  • Over the years, the “Axel Rose” has lost some of its energy and vigor

Overall, it was an educational experience. One I wouldn’t mind repeating.

Next year.

I do have to keep up with what those crazy kids are listening to, after all.

Another August Birth Type Celebration

A very happy birthday goes out to Katrina today. She picked Lauriol Plaza for her birthday happy hour, which is a place that I’ve been meaning to try, for literally, years. I just never knew the name. I’d pass by it every day on the L1 bus to work and back home. It’s a three floor restaurant which is entirely windows.

I’ll have to stop by for dinner one night.

The WalMart of Sweden

As nisa likes to refer to it. It being, “IKEA.” As it’s located in Potomac Mills, it often has the side effect of being the perfect location for all sorts of monkeying around.

Suddenly, the discussion between furiousgeorge and gnicklaser over the merits of Harry Potter LEGO and BIONICLE LEGO went very, very wrong.

Beautiful place, the LEGO store. If you look carefully, you can see the viking made out of LEGO in the background.
